barbecued engine (CSX 5479)
Title:  barbecued engine (CSX 5479)
Description:  Another GE toaster goes up in flames. This engine caught fire September 8, 2010 while pulling a coal train in Goochland County, Virginia. There is said to be 3 million dollars in damage here, which makes me wonder how much a brand new one costs. The fire was said to be caused by mechanical failure, which is nothing new for GE. This was seen at the CSX locomotive shops in Cumberland, Md. It was later put back into service.

CSX 9118
Title:  CSX 9118
Description:  On the repair track at the CSX Cumberland Shops. A veteran of the L&N (5013) built in November 1971. It was an SW1500 switcher when it started out but is now a RCPHE4. It is a remote control engine that can be attached to other engines on a train to make them remote control as well. This used to be CSX 1118 and the 9 on it was just improvised. At this location, who knows what it is in store for it next. Maybe a paint job or refurbishing and hopefully not a retirement.
