Album Info:The P&LE West Yough Bridge was built in 1904 to cross the Youghiogheny River and make a connection with the B&O Railroad on the other side. It is about a mile northwest of Connellsville. After the 1970's it saw little or no use, but the tracks were not removed until 2007. Now on opposite ends of the bridge are CSX and the Great Allegheny Passage. West Yough Bridge has become a bit of a local famous landmark, visited by an interesting mix of partiers, swimmers, fishermen, boaters, graffiti taggers, photographers, and bike/hike trail users. The steel structure is a rather unique looking Double Subdivided Warren Through Truss. The framework of the bridge is still solid but unfortunately the catwalk has some gaping holes due to scrap theft, and some crossties have been burnt by vandals. Update: In 2020, half of the bridge received a new wooden deck for a scenic lookout. It is owned by the Youghiogheny River Trail Council.
