Description:  New arrivals for the Allegheny Valley Railroad in 2012. Two EMD GP40-3s, seen here near the station of their sister railroad SWP in Scottdale, Pa. Both are former LLPX and KCS locomotives. Still in the KCS colors. AVR 4004 was built as CBQ 620 in February 1968.

Description:  EMD GP40-3 on a short freight train, shut down, at the interchange with SWP and WLE railroads in Owensdale Pa. I had to go with this angle because of the direction of the sun. AVR 4004 was built as CBQ 620 in February 1968. Later became BN 3020, NREX 3020, KCS 4741, and KCS 2825. After a short stint at LLPX last year, it has come to the AVR in 2012.

Description:  One of three EMD GP40-3s working a short coal train on the SWP Railroad's Bullskin Branch. Every five minutes or so, it would shove back several more railcars into a siding for loading. There is not much wide open space to work with on this track because the trees are so close to the tracks. So I could only get a front shot. The day was wet and dreary here, but did get better later. Also more photos will be coming later, from when the train arrived in Everson, Pa. AVR 4004 was built as CBQ 620 in February 1968. Later became BN 3020, NREX 3020, KCS 4741, and KCS 2825. After a short stint at LLPX last year, it has come to the AVR in 2012. Most of its time has been spent so far helping out the sister railroad SWP.

Description:  The lead engine that had just brought a coal train into Everson, Pa doing some switching on the SWP Railroad tracks. The small bridge crosses over Jacobs Creek and separates Everson in Fayette County from Scottdale in Westmoreland County. AVR 4004 was built as CBQ 620 in February 1968. Later became BN 3020, NREX 3020, KCS 4741, and KCS 2825. After a short stint at LLPX last year, it has come to the AVR in 2012.

Description:  Empty sand train passing a small farm near the Route 31 crossing in Tarrs, PA. There are chickens at this farm that perk up when they hear a train horn, and go to the side of the tracks to wait for the train to appear. It must be a routine for them by now, and was amusing to see.

Description:  Heading north through Bowest in Dunbar after picking up some empties from Universal Well Services in Mount Braddock. Note the new gravel base has been put down for the future Bowest Yard of the Southwest Pennsylvania Railroad. Tracks are slated to go in sometime next year. The yard lead will be off to the left where it crosses a small bridge and then meets the mainline.

Description:  The SWP railroad is in Connellsville to drop off two KRL depressed oversize load flatcars and also two TEXX cabeese. They would leave them on the mainline for the CSX B252 job to pick up, and then go get some cars that CSX had for them in the yard.
