Title:  AVR 4001 and SWP 4006
Description:  A pair of former KCS GP40-3's are reunited on this short train of empty sand cars stopped in front of VI Tower in the Connellsville CSX Yard to drop off paperwork. Official train number is Z687-22 since it is using CSX rails. VI tower is one of the few yard towers still active in Pennsylvania.

Still in its old KCS paint. Note the old PRR whistle post on the right. Built as MILW 170 GP40 in January 1967 then later became SOO 2043 GP40 and KCS 4737 GP40-3.

Description:  A mix of GP11's and GP40-3's that makes up the entire SWP roster is on this 83 car monster of a train. At the time it was the most cars I have ever seen the shortline SWP handle. They were all empty sand hoppers. Seen going west on the CSX Keystone Sub.

Title:  SWP 4006 and 4005 (1)
Description:  A pair of twin GP40-3's shoving back in the Connellsville CSX yard for some switching duties. Both are former KCS engines. As busy as the SWP railroad is, there is no time to put engines in the shop for a new paint job.

Title:  SWP 4006 and 4005 (2)
Description:  Sometimes things are not what they appear. It looks like the SWP railroad is now in the oil train business. But actually they were simply moving these tank cars to a different track so that they could get to the cars they needed. The tank cars would later go out on a K057 train.

BNSF 4716 and SWP 4006
Title:  BNSF 4716 and SWP 4006
Description:  Just by pure luck, a K053 empty oil train passes west at exactly the right time as SWP train Z687-05 is shoving back into the Connellsville CSX Yard. It almost feels like it could be a scene from the Midwest. Especially if you consider that SWP 4006 still has the grey paint from KCS.

Description:  A train of covered hoppers going north at Bowest, led by the recently rebuilt HD40-2 combination of engines. This is not really the shot I wanted but I ran out of time because a portion of the nearby Sheepskin Trail had been moved by the contractors rebuilding the Bowest Yard.

SWP 406 and 4006
Title:  SWP 406 and 4006
Description:  Light engine movement going north at Bowest, towards CSX and Connellsville. It is a good thing they were not pulling anything because this is a going away shot and the light was best for that. The leaves have been stripped from the trees by days of heavy storms and winds. And now we get the nice weather.

SWP 4006
Title:  SWP 4006
Description:  At 6:11 in the morning the SWP Railroad is already out and about, doing a rare movement of a stone train on the barely-used Bullskin Branch. This is the fourth bridge over Mounts Creek when the train is coming from this direction. For many decades the only trains loaded on this dead-end spur were coal trains. This is the second of what are supposed to be five stone trains.

Marooned
Title:  Marooned
Description:  An empty sand train of 80 cars and eight locomotives (SWP 406, SWP 4006, AVR 4005, AVR 405, CN 8813, CN 8942, CN 8897, NS 9886) coming to a stop at O&B Junction in Wheeler Bottom, Dunbar Township. The crew had to leave the train here because CSX was going to make them wait too long to get onto their tracks across the river. Up above the train the Sheepskin bike/hike trail runs along the hillside, which used to the the lead track for Western Maryland Railways Bowest Yard.

Eight is great
Title:  Eight is great
Description:  An epic eight locomotive lineup of SWP 406, SWP 4006, AVR 4005, AVR 405, CN 8813, CN 8942, CN 8897, and NS 9886 that has just picked up a train of 80 empty sand cars in Lemont Furnace, PA. That was after they ran a loaded train down to Smithfield, PA early in the morning in the dark. SWP 406-4006 and AVR 4005-405 work together as slug sets, giving a rare chance to get both of them together on one train.
