| The Western Maryland Railway had one bridge at each end of what was called the "Pinkerton Horn", a horshoe shaped piece of land that was formed by the Casselman River. This is the higher of the two bridges. This was abandoned in 1975 after the merger with Chessie System. The piers were wide enough to accomodate a second track but that never actually came about. The fact this line was single tracked made the decision much easier for Chessie System to abandon it. This bridge was abandoned for several decades before finding new life as part of the Great Allegheny Passage. |
